About the Gitoki Region
Gitoki is a hill in the Eastern Province of Rwanda and home to the Gitoki coffee washing station. Currently, it is the newest washing station belonging to the Baho family. It receives harvests from 1,120 producers, produces 10 containers of green coffee per year, and employs 130 people during the peak of the harvest season.
According to the 2019 National Rwanda Coffee Export Report, the Gatsibo district produces a significant amount of coffee cherries. Previously, there were no processing stations in the Gitoki sector. The owners decided that it would be practical to build a washing station in 2020 to make it easier for producers to deliver their product over short distances and preserve the quality of the processed coffee. Although corn and bananas currently dominate the region, Baho has created a notable seedling distribution program that encourages producers to begin planting more coffee.
