About the Brunca Region
The Brunca region is located in the south of Costa Rica, where coffee cultivation began in the late 19th century when the first settlers arrived from the coffee-growing areas of the Central Valley and brought with them the deep-rooted Costa Rican coffee culture. The Brunca region is characterized by its mountainous terrain and volcanic soils. The high altitudes provide cool climates ideal for growing sweet and dense beans.
The region gets its name from the indigenous peoples of Costa Rica, the Bruncas (also known as Borucas), who inhabited this area before the arrival of the Spaniards. The coffee produced here has a smooth, slightly acidic flavor, and a complex aroma with citrus and floral notes.
